John Frailey is also a founding partner as well as the vice president of engineering for AFS Energy Systems. John is responsible for the engineering design, service and support of all AFS wood-fired biomass systems. John also spent his entire career in the renewable energy field. Since receiving his BS in Mechanical Engineering degree at Auburn University, he has been designing and supporting renewable energy biomass systems throughout North America.
Before founding AFS, John worked as a project engineer and engineering manager at Saxton Air Systems – Energy Systems Division. Since 1990, John and his partners have established AFS Energy Systems one of the fastest growing and most successful renewable energy system companies in the United States.
Experience
For over thirty‑five years, the founders of AFS Energy Systems have been at the forefront of the biomass industry. Since establishing the company in 1990, AFS has designed and built over 150 biomass boiler systems serving industrial clients across North America. That depth of experience matters. When you need a biomass energy system done right, you choose a team that knows the industry inside and out — and has a proven record of delivering successful, long‑term solutions.
Turn-key Solutions
AFS Energy Systems delivers a complete, vertically integrated solution—designed, engineered, fabricated, and supported entirely in‑house. With specialized teams overseeing each discipline, we maintain full accountability, quality control, and precision throughout the entire design and manufacturing process.
Value
AFS Energy biomass systems are engineered for optimal value, not lowest cost or highest price. Each system is designed to achieve rapid ROI while enhancing both operational efficiency and environmental performance. The real value behind AFS is that we deliver fully engineered, fully fabricated, fully supported biomass energy systems that outperform, outlast, and out‑return anything in the market.
Quality
Every component in an AFS Biomass system is specified for industrial duty and long service life. From abrasion‑resistant conveyor steels to advanced PLC‑based control architecture, each element is selected to meet defined performance, reliability, and maintainability criteria. AFS’ full‑time Quality Control Officer oversees fabrication and assembly to ensure the system operates at designed efficiencies and delivers sustained economic return over its lifecycle.
Investment
A biomass boiler system can be a beneficial investment because it limits exposure to fossil-fuel price volatility, reduces operating costs, stabilizes energy budgets, monetizes waste, strengthens sustainability performance, and provides long‑term resilience to market fluctuations. For high‑thermal‑load industries — especially those generating their own biomass fuel — the economics of a wood fired biomass system are often unmatched. AFS looks to have ROI of 5-7 years on our larger biomass systems.
Service
The AFS Service Team is ready to support you whenever you need us. With secure remote online access to your AFS Industrial Control Panel (ICP), our technicians often diagnose and resolve issues immediately. AFS ICPs are available for upgrades and retrofits modernize existing systems increasing automation and maximizing boiler room operational efficiency and ultimately energy output. When on‑site assistance is required, our service specialists arrive fully prepared in well‑equipped AFS service vans to provide complete system support.
Flexibility
AFS is a total energy provider delivering custom systems engineered to your facilities specific operating requirements. Prior to design, AFS analyzes your load profile, fuel characteristics, and process requirements that will determine the custom solutions for your biomass system. We operate as a full‑scope energy provider from concept through long‑term operation
